About This Site and Me
Hi there! I'm Lorselq (aka "Forrest" in some circles), and I use they/them pronouns. I like sharing things I make, particularly creative writing, music, and occult projects. This space is my way of connecting with friends, family, and anyone else who might find joy and inspiration in my work. It's decidedly not part of the hustle culture; I'm not here to make money, just to share my passions.
Music
Music has been a significant part of my life since third grade when I started playing the piano. I grew up surrounded by music (my mother played violin in the symphony, and I spent a lot of time at the concert hall just... hanging out). I studied music theory in college and have mostly been focusing on composition since then. I occasionally dabble in other instruments like guitar, mostly for recording purposes. I use Reaper, FL Studio, and Renoise for my compositions, drawing heavy influence from NES/SNES/Genesis/Playstation-era video game music, classical music, metal, and breakcore. Baroque counterpoint holds a special place in my heart, and it brings me immense joy.
Creative Writing
Words have always fascinated me. I care deeply about diction and storytelling, though I mostly write poetry because its brevity allows me to finish pieces and feel a sense of accomplishment more quickly. While I'm not the best storyteller, I enjoy crafting narratives and sharing them with others.
Occult Practices
My interest in the occult began for reasons that are hard to explain—I think I wanted a sense of agency and control over my life when I felt like I had none as a kid. I read Bulfinch's Mythology when I was in 2nd grade and obsessed over mythology, delved into energy work in my teenage years, shoved it all away because I didn't know how to reconcile some experiences I had, and fell into a pretty long-lasting bout of depression and nihilism. I managed to climb out of it via a deep dive into ceremonial magical practices starting in 2018. This journey has been both enlightening and fulfilling, blending my love for philosophy, play, and depth.
What I'm Hoping to Get From This
I'm not sharing my stuff because of hustle culture (I've spent a long while trying to decouple my hobbies from cultural push for turning everything you do into a money-driven venture); I'm sharing because I feel like it's neat, has worth, and it could help someone feel or think a thing they're wanting to feel or think. I want you to see me as a whole person—a mix of seriousness, whimsy, philosophy, play, depth, creativity, wonder, and solemn contemplation. Through my work, I hope to convey the richness of emotions and the depth of being that life offers.
My Approach
In all my endeavors, I strive for an aesthetic balance between sadness and hope, love and unity, curiosity, play, absurdity, wonder—sometimes bringing out some more than others. I approach my work with the dedication and precision because I love the learning process; I want to create something meaningful and beautiful.
Thank you for visiting, and I hope you find something here that resonates with you.
