she leans on her desk

The Poem

She leans on her desk
as boys and girls scribble
on the test paper.

She’s watching the world
in her mind
She’s watching the world
Spin
Turn
Part of the solar system
Galaxy
Cosmos
A breath of God as we breathe Him
into the whole of us.

The bell rings
Tests are left on her desk
And she grades them that evening
One test at a time
One breath at a time.

Commentary

This poem may have been about someone spiritual or religious who was a student. I'm not sure—it was a long time ago, so I don't recall.

Oh, and this poem is part of a series that I explain here.
