Dee's English

The mighty sounds haue entred in the 3th Angle and are become as oliues in the oliue mount looking wth gladnes uppon the earth and dwelling in the brightness of the heauens as contynuall comforters Vnto Whome I fastened pillers of gladnes 19 and gaue them vessels to water the earth with her creatures and they are the brothirs of the first and second and the beginning of their own seats which are garnished continuall burning lamps 69636 Whose numbers are as the first the endes and the contents of tyme Therefore Come you and obey your creation viset vs in peace and comfort Conclude vs as receiuers of yor mysteries: for why? Our Lord and Master is all One.

Contemporary adaptation

"The mighty sounds have entered the third angle and are become as olives in the olive mount, looking with gladness upon the earth and dwelling in the brightness of the heavens as continual comforters, unto whom I fastened 19 pillars of gladness and gave them vessels to water the earth with her creatures. And they are the brothers of the first and second and the beginning of their own seats, which are garnished with continual burning lamps, whose numbers are as the first, the ends, and the contents of time."

Therefore, come you and obey your creation; visit us in peace and comfort; conclude us as receivers of their mysteries, for why our lord and master is all one.

Interpretation

Ooh, look: last Key, we had thunders (I almost typed "thunderstanding" if that gives you any idea of what level we're operating at while writing this), and this Key we have "the mighty sounds". Behold!

The mighty sounds have entered the third angle and are become as olives in the olive mount, looking with gladness upon the earth and dwelling in the brightness of the heavens as continual comforters…

We're at the third angle! Yay! A continuation of the themes. What angle is this to be? Regardless of what it is in terms of geometry, we know that it's above the earth.

I never really was Christian and only ever attended church as much as Christmas Eve and Easter once every few years, so while this means that I don't carry much religious trauma (outside of what the American culture heaps upon you as the default—at least if you choose to interpret your personal narrative in that fashion), it also means that I don't really know much about the bible. I'm like, "Oh, yeah, I know Abraham—the one with the flood, right??"

So please let me know if I'm wrong on any of the bible-specific references. Enochiana?—I'm solid. Bible?—oh wow am I bad at that game.

Anyway, my understanding is that Jesus' last appearance post-crucifixion was on the olive mount that he went to a few times prior to the crucifixion (Google told me this much), at which point he said things to his disciples and ascended to heaven.

So, with that said, I'm assuming to like the olives in the olive mount (again, this is "as the olives", which means they have similarity), I assume, is a good thing. What do we know about olives?

  • They are round and stuff
  • They're heavenly to the taste
    • Which is to say, they're nourishing because they're edible

There are further details that identify the "mighty sounds"—they dwell "in the brightness of the heavens as continual comforters". I assume we're not talking about blankets, so what are we talking about? If we allow "olive" to be the metaphor for something that is continually (not the same as constantly) in the sky, what are round and nourish the world in one way or another?

  • The sun
  • The moon

Behold: further evidence!

... unto whom I fastened 19 pillars of gladness and gave them vessels to water the earth with her creatures.

As I mentioned in one of the earlier analyses, the 19 pillars of gladness are the number of solar years that mark when the sun and moon "return" to their starting positions in the sky, as per the Metonic calendar system. This means the pillars are appreciated for their structure and stability. And, like olives, they nourish the earth—how sweet of the moon and sun to be so generous.

And yet more details about the sun and moon:

And they are the brothers of the first and second and the beginning of their own seats, which are garnished with continual burning lamps 69636, whose numbers are as the first, the ends, and the contents of time.

Apparently the sun and moon are brothers—which is an interesting gender reveal, but all right.1 Gender aside, to say the sun and moon are related is fair—they are two of the "wandering stars" of astrology (i.e., "planets"). They also are posed as opposites to each other.

But wait, they're also brothers to the first and second angles. While this could be used to indicate that the angles ought be interpreted as entities with personalities or otherwise personifications of ideas, I think a safer claim would be to say that the sun and moon are related to the first and second angles. After all, the language used to describe things in relation to the first and second angles was: "in the first" and "in the second angle".

So if the first angle and the second angle is the Earth, split between night and day, the sun and moon are "above the sky", you could say. This means we end up with something that looks something like... well, let me show you an image I doctored up in MS Paint and explain what's going on.

An image of a crudely drawn sun and moon with an Earth split in a day side and night side in the middle of the image, and a triangle drawn connecting the three

Before I even start, let's be very true: if you're learning astronomy from this, please just stop. Stop right now. The Earth is not flat, there is no firmament, and the Earth orbits the Sun, and the Moon orbits the Earth. The Sun is extremely large, accounting for roughly 99% of the mass of the solar system (I kid you not), and the moon is tiny by comparison, small even compared to Earth.

Do not learn astronomy from this. This chart is not to scale even for what it's trying to represent!

Phew, okay with that out of the way... let's move on.

So the "first angle" is the circle (360°), the "second angle" is the line dividing the Earth between the day and the night (180°). If the The sun and the moon are very, Very high up (heh). For sake of argument, assume that we draw a line from the sun to the moon, connect the two down to the center of the Earth—we would get a triangle. If you divide that triangle in half, you get two right triangles (see diagram, I did my best).

And what would the other dimensions of the triangles be? I would argue that this is a 30°-60°-90° pair of right triangles, which, when combined, become a 60°-60°-60° triangle. A lot of the reasoning centers around the 69636 number, which has been somewhat mysterious for a while.

Here's my thinking: 6-9-6-3-6, as a string of digits, can be summed to 30. 30° as the bottom of the right triangle, the part on the Earth, gives us the calculations I laid out in the last paragraph. But also, let's add some zeroes in there, for grins: 60-90-60-30-60. If we ignore the 60's on both sides, we wind up with: 90°-60°-30°, as above. If we remove the internal structure of the equilateral triangle (omit 90 and 30), we're left with 60°-60°-60°.

Key takeaways

The thing I want you to understand about this Key is that it is focused on the equilateral triangle, which is three 60° angles. This 60° angle at the base, splitting to the left and right upwards, pierces down into the circle and the line.

You might see where I'm going with this by now. If not, that's okay, we have one more to go through before the big reveal.

Anyway, thanks byeee!
