Exegesis Part Eight - ringing true at last

What this all amounts to

This section is really two separate parts, and probably the article I will revise and expand upon the most as I face criticisms from people I share this with. I'll try to credit people appropriately who raise objections. If you've argued with me about this and I haven't credited you, please tell me and I'll cite your idea and where it came from.

Preamble

Let's be absolutely clear: while I believe my arguments are compelling, nothing about this topic can ever be truly concrete—even though there is math involved, the arguments are not wholly math; they are interpretations of a text. We cannot know, for certain, what Dee or Kelly experienced. We may be missing anywhere from a little to a lot of Dee's records. So, given the circumstance, what do arguments for one thing or another look like?

Everything I've argued so far and going forward is towards the end of a cohesive web of connections that requires the smallest number of assumptions, limits itself to what Dee and Kelly could possibly have known, and all of the points cohere with all the rest such that there is a minimum of conflicting evidence.

There are other interpretations of the numbers than the ones I gave. A subject matter expert on discord whose incredible work can be found here has pointed out a great number of alternatives to what I've suggested.

For example, he pointed out that Michael's work in Enochian Today (which I mentioned in the previous entry) demonstrates that the numbers (large numbers especially, likely ones with colons by them as they appear in the manuscript) were decided upon after transmission; it was only later that Dee and Kelly received the numbers.

And those numbers exist with incredible closeness to other parts of Dee and Kelly's systems of Enochiana that I haven't even touched yet. Take a look for yourself. Of these large numbers that are four digits a piece or more, the average difference between the numbers as they exist in the Keys and the numbers of servient angels assigned to a given Zodiacal King, when properly arranged, is 4.545. That is tiny considering this includes numbers like 69636 (and the number of servient angels for the corresponding Zodiacal King is also 69636). Most are either off by just one or 3 or none at all. Of the few that are off by some amount, the highest amount at any point is 20 (5678 and 5658).

Either way, the point is, as with many elegant systems centered around meaning-making through symbolism, it is more than likely that multiple differing interpretations are true at once, and each of those interpretations brings something meaningful to the table. At least, that's what I hope—I want there to be room for ones already established as well as mine. I believe that mine is sufficiently unique and provides an angle (again: heh) that has not really been looked at prior, at least not to my knowledge.

At any rate, this is where we land.

Key takeaways

Assuming you agree with my arguments, you'll find the following:

  1. The first Key establishes the Enochian cosmology
  2. The second Key shows two things:
    • The origin of existence a single point (within a circle)
    • All of existence is contained within (the mind of) God
  3. The third Key draws a circle around that point
  4. The fourth Key draws a line through the circle (horizontally)
  5. The fifth Key places a 60° angle pointed downwards through the top of the circle
  6. The sixth Key places a 90° angle pointed bottom-left with the vertical line through the bottom of the circle

If you agree with these points, you will find that the PELE ring is a physical representation of these ideas, from beginning to end. Behold!

A color-coded rendition of the PELE ring that makes explicit which Key belongs to which part of the ring.

I apologize for the messiness of my MS Paint job, but I think you get the idea of what corresponds to what.

I'm sure some people would want to argue that the 90° angle is merely an "L". I don't think this is so—it would be strange for this to be the only artifact on the ring, besides PELE, that is not a geometric shape in a sequence of geometric shapes. An "L" is simply a way to represent a square without closing the box, much like the "V" represents a triangle without closing it.

One of the things that I hoped to show through this series of articles is that the "V" and the "L" are very definitely angles—both the Keys and the recorded communications between Dee/Kelly/angels corroborate this. Further, this actually captures a certain piece of astrology:

  • The point is the origin
  • The circle is the world and the sky, and symbolizes the whole
  • The line is an 180°, which in astrology is an opposition
  • The 60° angle, captured in the wheel of astrology, is part of a trine
  • The 90° angle is part of an astrological square

All that's missing of these astrological aspects is the sextile (I'm pretty sure we skip the pentagon and go directly to the hexagon for whatever reason). That said, I'm pretty sure you can imply the sextile; if a line is 180° and the trine is made from a triangle composed of three 60° angles, the complementary angle to 60° on the 180° line is 120°—which is how wide the angle needs to be generate a hexagon in the wheel of the sky. So, the 60° angle implies the 120° angle; the trine implies the sextile.

Prior significations

At the very beginning of this series, I endeavored to show that, if this interpretation of the first, second, third, and fourth angles is accepted, we wind up with: 360+180+60+90. This equals 690. PELE, as established prior, sums to 120. Together: 810.

Here are some fun gematria correspondences that demonstrate further coherence of what I've been saying.

The first one I want to touch on is 810: this is the whole of reality including the transcendent PELE. There are two words of import that share this number:

  • Παρακλητος, or "Parakletos", which is the Ancient Greek word for:
    • "The Comforter", "The Advocate", "The Helper", and, last but not least,
    • "The Holy Spirit"—this is literally the word chosen in John 14:16 to represent the Holy Spirit
  • The Hebrew word "Eshek", אֶשֶׁךְ
    • "Testicle" as found in Leviticus 21:20
    • Can be thought of also as "the seed"

Before we get into interpretation, let me say, I recognize that mixing isopsephy with gematria is a little icky to some people. However, given that Dee was a Christian Cabalist and of his own particular historical period, the goal was to syncretize everything that could be learned from anything. For instance, the Monas Hieroglyphica is a perfect example of Dee fusing geometry, Greek philosophy, Hebrew, and Christian Cabala.

With that out of the way.

Parakletos and Eshek may seem like polar opposites, but that's actually the point—they are the highest form of spirit and the rawest form of (generative) matter, described in their entirety from a cosmological perspective when we take the ring as a whole.

But what if we don't take the ring as a whole? Do any of the other parts, by themselves, have special meanings when combined that add weight to this story?

I think yes.

Bonus number play

Spinal surgery

Let's say we remove 120, the PELE part, from 810, the ring as a whole. This leaves us with 690.

The Ancient Greek word for "south" (Νότος) comes from this. Interestingly, the Key in which I establish the idea of the line, the second angle (180°), the speaker of first part (i.e., not the charge made by the invoker) begins like this:

I have set my feet in the south...

This implies the other cardinal directions, particularly north. This line, if you will, is akin to the Axis Mundi, which is the polarizing line that distinguishes Self and Other, the life-giving and death-delivering parts of the circle. This makes it, in many ways, the spine of the cosmos, as it were.

Let's say we subtract further things, using 690 as our starting point. If 690 is the a wholly functioning reality without God, what happens if we take away the Foundation (90) from it? The remainder is 600, which is the isopsephy for the Ancient Greek word Κοσμος, which means "world" and "order".

If a map is an ordered expression of the physical terrain, if you lose the physical terrain, you're left with a map and no place to tread.

However, if you take away the binding qualities of time, that which "trusses together" the threads of reality with order and structure, you come face to face with that which is closest to the divine: 690 - 60 = 630, which is the Ancient Greek used for Seraphim (Σεραφιν), the highest of angels.

Perhaps the most cryptic play I can make is subtracting the line: 690 - 180 = 510. This maps to the words ΚΡΟΝΟΣ (Kronos)—meaning "time" and representing Saturn—and ΒΟΥΛΗ (Vouli)—meaning something like "will of the gods". If Saturn is limitations and restrictions, it could be that losing the line from the image is like being submitted to the will of the gods—which could mean not having free will.

To that point: if the line signifies the separation of Self and Other, the lack of the line suggestions that there's no separation between humanity and nature, that we simply "do what we're going to do" without any ability to intervene.

To put it another way, without the separation of Self and Other, the separation between subject and object, there is no "I" to make a choice. This collapse of personal perspective means that people would simply be probabilistic automata—there is no Will where there is no Self, merely beep boop bzzt.

However, through distinction between Self and Other, through the ability perceive as the subject and experience objects of awareness, we can engage in other modes of being. Through being able to see what is the "natural"1 mode of being, we can step outside of it—we have the ability to do otherwise.

This is maybe a bit rambling, but I thought it was interesting to explore. Thanks for being along on the ride.

Final words

If you read all of this, thank you so, so much! I really appreciate it. Please contact me if you have any feedback, be it praise or constructive criticism or other feedback. You probably know how (this site is not well-known, so if you're reading this, there's a fair chance you know me personally). Worst case scenario, if you don't have my contact information, I can be reached on discord with relative ease.

I will be editing these entries now and again as I uncover more things about Keys 1 through 6 that either strengthen or destabilize my arguments.

Anyway thanks byeeee!

Footnotes

  1. This actually touches on my favorite paradox about humanity, which I'll have to talk about another time: "It is natural for humans to be artificial."
